The Monastery is built on a rock, 300 meters above the sea. This year, the Cultural Assosiation of Tholaria in Amorgos organized a special Cultural Event with the support of the European Leader + program. It included a photography Exhibition with title: “Meeting the Big Blue -Amorgos: The portrait of an island.”
The photos, were a celection of work of 7 photographers from around the world, who had visited Amorgos during the YPERIA 2007 Convention.
EliasProvopoulos from Greece, Edith Lebon from Paris, Boyco Yordanov from Bulgaria, Michael Jagd from Denmark, Milan Hristev from Bulgaria, Shao Bo Yang from China,, Simona Silvestri from Italy presented their pictures, giving the portrait of Amorgos, through their eyes and cameras. . Also, a photo album with pictures and thoughts about Amorgos from the
same photographers, was presented by Mrs. Sdrafka Michailova, a journalist and writer, member of the Bulgarian Embassy who is a regular attendant of “Yperia” Conventions, organized on Amorgos annually by the above association, in cooperation with Aegialis Hotel & Spa.
The Event opened by the Assosoation’s President Mrs. Irene Giannakopoulos and with greetings of the representative of the goverment Mr. Yiannis Vroutsis, the Mayor of Amorgos Mr. Nikolaos Fostieris, and the representative of Amorgos Society in Athens Mr. Antonis Vlavianos.
A very interesting film, produced by the Polish producer Mr. Yacek Van, was presented for the first time, showing all the customs and traditions of Amorgos island during Easter period. The Event ended with presentation of a folk dance group in traditional Amorgian costumes, who performed 7 local dances. All participants, were offered the traditional sweets “Xerotigana”, “loukoumades”, and the
